Raystown Lake via the Terrace Mountain Trail

Image
This loop goes all the way around Raystown lake. The East part of the lake is really wild, with 10-20 miles of remote singletrack and as many of forest roads. The loop goes though most of the rideable sections of the Terrace Mountain Trail. There are many impressive views on the lake. The west part of the lake is definitely more civilized, and the roads mostly paved. Make sure to stop at the awesome Allegrippis trail system to shred some additional flowy singletracks. There are campgrounds scattered all around the lake, including a free shelter on the terrace mountain trail ~ 10 miles north of Trough Creek State Park (on a first come first served basis, but I think seldom used). The loop is about 50% paved, 30% double track, 20% singletrack + whatever you want to ride in Allegrippis (I included a small section in the map). An old farm on the road. Close up of the truck. Raystown dam, with the road to the viewpoint. Americana: a street sign, a mailbox, a telephone pole, a useless gate.

112 miles of goodness and climbs. Nothing too difficult but it is taxing on the legs. Bikes: Salsa Fargo, Surly Cross-Check.

PA Wild Hunting Grounds Loop

Image
The more intense ride I have ever done. Two days, ride through part of the night, camping in a shady spot where hunters go to skin their catch - but beautiful. Incredible fall colors throughout. The last couple hours with frigid rain where tough. Lots of hunting grounds, make sure to wear orange. Some form of hunting is allowed most of the year round.
